Our spaces celebrate creativity, with original works displayed throughout the property, including The IXL Long Bar, Landscape Restaurant, Lounge and Private Dining Room, the Packing Room Gallery, and in every guest room and suite. At our sister property, MACq 01 Hotel, you’ll find even more inspiring pieces.
In total, our collection features over 400 works by 40 emerging and established Tasmanian artists, independent practitioners, and artists represented by Hobart’s leading galleries.
What you can expect in a day in this role:
As our Art Curator, you’ll spend your day immersed in creativity and connection. You’ll lead engaging art tours for guests, sharing the stories behind our collection and the artists who created them.
You’ll coordinate exhibitions and events that showcase Tasmanian talent, manage art sales, shipping and meet sales targets, and work closely with artists and guests to ensure a seamless experience. As part of this unique role, you can also expect to:
Play a central role in coordinating prestigious awards such as the Glover Prize and the Henry Jones Art Prize.
Curate and open a new exhibition every 5–6 weeks in the Packing Room Gallery.
Act as a key point of guest connection is our Artist in Residence program, where you’ll invite local artists to create work in the foyer and engage with guests about their concepts and practice.
In every aspect of this role, you’ll help bring The Henry Jones Art Hotel’s cultural vision to life and ensure that art remains at the core of every guest experience.
What you will bring to the role:
A degree in fine or visual art (or related field) with experience in art interpretation
Strong interest in, and knowledge of, Tasmanian contemporary art with a refined aesthetic judgement and an exceptional eye for detail
Strong administrative skills with proficiency in MS Office
An outgoing personality with strong customer-service skills and the ability to tailor guest experiences
The physical capability and confidence to work at heights, including climbing ladders and safely hanging or moving artworks
An understanding and appreciation of the history and heritage of The Henry Jones Art Hotel
